The Arizona Department of Public Safety has reopened Interstate 10 (I-10) after traffic was detoured onto another highway following a collision between 2 semi-trailer trucks in western Arizona about 50 miles west of Phoenix early Friday morning, Oct. 6th. The incident occurred shortly after 7:50 a.m. near milepost 77 in the eastbound lanes of the I-10. According to DPS a FedEx semi-trailer truck had rear-ended another commercial semi-trailer truck spilling packages onto the roadway.
Emergency crews on scene extricated 2 people from 1 of the semis. Both crash victims suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to a nearby hospital. The Arizona Department of Transportation says the reopening Friday afternoon started with only 1 lane because of ongoing cleanup operations. Westbound lanes of I-10 were unaffected. All eastbound lanes were reopened at around 2 p.m.
