A driver was critically injured on the train tracks near Scottsdale on Wednesday morning.

The driver, a 25-year old woman was attempting to cross the train tracks southeast of San Tan Valley, near Hunt Highway on Apollo Road where the accident occurred. She failed to beat the oncoming Union Pacific train across the tracks. The train crashed and destroyed the front end of the sedan sending debris throughout the street.
After extricating the woman from her sedan, Rural/Metro rescuers found the woman in critical condition. She was flown to a nearby Scottsdale hospital where she remains under critical care.
The accident remains under investigation.
