Gust stirs up in a Mesa accident scene as a helicopter transports a man with life threatening injuries to the hospital. Voices in a school bus are drowned by the roar of the propellers and the sirens of fire trucks and ambulances. An ambulance was there to transport an injured female teen student to a local hospital as a precaution Wednesday morning.

Stopping as usual near Broadway and Signal Butte Roads facing west, students boarded the charter school bus as they would traditionally do so. This was part of their routine to go to school. Most of them took their seats as they were accustomed to, next to their friends or wherever there was a spot open. Some would catch up on the latest gossip, homework, or Facebook updates.
Heading in the direction of the loading bus a man in his fifties was driving a van minding his own business. He was mid-thought on what was on his agenda for the day when he saw a bus but paid no attention to it. There was nothing much unusual about it. He then allegedly did not realize the bus was stopped until it was too late and struck the rear of it, there was no time to slam on the brakes.
The bus shook with the impact, launching forward and knocking any student standing to its floors. Smartphones, books and backpacks were violently thrown in every direction. Some students hit the back of bus seats face first. Some screamed.
Blaring Mesa and Apache Junction fire department sirens announced their arrival. Crews responded to the students, most which were in a state of shock and had minor scratches and a story to tell at school - with the exception of one seventeen-year-old female. With the upmost care she was loaded onto a gurney and taken into an ambulance. She had minor injuries but was transported to the hospital as a precaution. She is going to need an injury lawyer who can help her get compensation to pay for her expenses and distress.
Using extreme caution, a fire crew tended to the extrication of the man in the van. Adroit to these unusual situations the crew was able to remove the man from what was left of the van he was driving. He was seriously injured and had to be transported to a trauma center as soon as possible. A rescue helicopter was called in and flew the man to the nearest trauma center. Hopefully he knows to contact a Mesa injury lawyer to deal with the insurance companies while he worries about the most important thing, his recovery.
