Officers and crew members were almost done cleaning up after an accident on the westbound HOV lane on Loop 202, near McClintock, when an oncoming maroon truck rear-ended a Department of Public Safety cruiser at 9:24 a.m.
Two tow trucks were loading up the damaged vehicles and a DPS officer was onsite investigating the accident parked behind them. As the truck was nearing the scene at high speeds, they signaled the truck to stop by frantically waving. Noticing the truck was failing to yield, the officer investigating the scene jumped away from the scene just before the truck struck the cruiser. His cruiser was smashed against a tow truck.
The tow truck driver received minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The officer was uninjured.
