Tolleson, CA (August 14, 2019)- New information was released by the Tolleson Police Department in connection to a DUI hit-and-run suspect who killed a young girl in Tolleson back in July. On July 5th Tolleson Police Department received reports of a collision near 91st Avenue and Interstate 10 sometime around 10:00 P.M. 28-year old Arturo Perez was driving his SUV when he struck another vehicle carrying an adult male, an adult female, and 3 children. Tolleson Police arrived on scene to find 2 seriously injured females, an adult and a 7-year old child.
The adult female was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated from her injuries. The 7-year old child was transported to Phoenix Children’s Hospital where she was later pronounced dead by medical staff. Perez walked away from the crash scene but returned later and admitted to being the driver of the SUV.
New details were released in court records alleging that Tolleson officers found open beer cans inside Perez’s SUV. Another can of beer was found on the roadway and was still cold. Court records indicated that Perez’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was .104, 5 times the legal limit. Police say Perez admitted to drinking 4 cans of beer and smoking marijuana before the crash. Perez was booked into the Avondale jail and is facing multiple charges including manslaughter, aggravated assault, DUI, and hit-and-run. He is being held on a $200,000 bond.
