Phoenix, AZ – The Phoenix Fire Department responded to the scene of a multi-vehicle collision that occurred along the South Mountain Freeway, a stretch of Loop 202 near Buckeye Road, on Tuesday February 4th. According to Phoenix Fire Capt. Rob McDade, the crash involved 2 semi-trucks and a number of other vehicles. 8 individuals were taken to a nearby hospital where they were treated for various injuries resulted from the collision. 3 others were seriously injured.
Among them were a 2-year old boy, a 21-year old woman, and a male whose age was not mentioned. Hazmat responded to the scene as 20 gallons of diesel fuel leaked onto the highway but was quickly cleaned with no impact to the surrounding ecosystem. Capt. McDade said that Hazmat remained on scene because the other semi-truck was carrying oxygen and acetylene tanks. Luckily Hazmat crew reported that while the tanks were damaged during the collision the tanks were not leaking. The northbound lanes of Loop 202 in the area were closed for some time.
