Phoenix, AZ (December 15, 2018) - A 21 year old suspect has been arrested for fatally hitting a skateboarder with his vehicle Saturday evening, December 15th. Mathew Carringer, 24-years old, was riding his skateboard against traffic in a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle near 19th Street and Dunlap Avenue. The driver of the vehicle was only identified by his last name Green, 21- years old. After Green hit the skateboarder he fled the scene and Carringer was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.
Officers later apprehended Green the following day. Green explained to officers how he had been driving west on Dunlap Avenue and had a green light when he drove into the intersection and struck someone with his car. Green told officers that he has been driving with several coworkers and panicked after the incident. He stated he should have called for help of 911. A court commissioner set Greens bond at $35,000. His next court appeal is set for December 24th in Maricopa County Superior Court.
