A 17-year-old from Gilbert was in serious condition on Thursday night after an accident involving three vehicles on Val Vista Drive and Germann road sent him to the trauma center with a head injury.
The crash occurred at about 6:30 p.m. after the Gilbert Fire Department received multiple calls of a pickup truck on its side.
Four people involved in the accident were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The 17-year-old suffered serious head trauma and had lost consciousness. He was transported to a local hospital.
The boy was a passenger in a Nissan 350Z at the time of the accident.
According to witnesses, the accident occurred when a Ford F-150 that was traveling south on Val Vista attempted to turn left at the intersection. The driver of the Nissan was traveling north on Val Vista and did not stop for the red light. The truck was then pushed by the Nissan into a minivan.
A HAZMAT team was also dispatched to the scene to clean up several pool chemicals that had spilled into the roadway from the bed of the pickup truck.
