Eight days after crashing at the bottom of a halfpipe in Utah during a training run, Canadian freestyle skier Sara Burke passed away. She was 29.
She fell and ruptured a vertebral artery and went into cardiac arrest. Authorities transported her to a hospital in Salt Lake City where she was placed on life support and underwent surgery. Unfortunately, due to the “severe irreversible damage to her brain,” she passed away, according to a statement made by her publicist.
Burke competed in the Winter X Games four times. She lived in British Columbia near Whistler.
She died surrounded by family and friends.
