Heavy flows of water trickling down Peoria, Arizona streets was evidence of an accident which happened Thursday morning when a vehicle struck and knocked over a fire hydrant. The accident injured two people sending one to the hospital in critical condition.

A helicopter approaching in the distance alerted all those surrounding the one-car accident scene that this one was serious. At about 6:00 a.m. a 19-year-old man was driving a vehicle near the intersection of 83rd Avenue and Lake Pleasant Parkway with a female passenger also 19-years-old. Neither the relationship nor the names of the two were made publicly known per Peoria Police spokesman Jay Davies or Arizona Central.
For an unknown reason the driver failed to maintain dominance of the vehicle. At high speeds it crashed into a fire hydrant and what seemed to be a water valve near the intersection. At a car versus metal situation, the car which was traveling at high speeds won the battle. The fire hydrant lay defeated spilling gallons of water onto the streets and on the car.
While the fire hydrant may have been knocked over, the passengers of the car were injured. After being extricated from the vehicle, the teen woman was now a victim. She had received serious injuries and a helicopter was called to transport her expediently for medical help. She was airlifted to a local hospital where physicians pledged to do their best to help her recover.
Suffering minor injuries, the driver was treated on the scene and detained. He was allegedly submitted to sobriety tests for being suspect of alcoholic intoxication and perhaps illegal drugs.
The intersection was closed for about two hours while the proper authorities investigated and cleared the scene. There were no other victims and the fire hydrant situation was handled as well.
