Critical injuries kill 81-year old man rescued from his vehicle in Yuma irrigation ditch.
The man was driving a Honda CRV at the time was heading Southbound on Avenue G in Yuma, Arizona near 14th Street. His CRV crossed the center divider driving into the northbound lane. The CRV crashed the driver front side panel for a Hyundai Elantra. The CRV ricochet into an irrigation canal trapping and critically injuring the driver.
Somerton-Cocopah fire fighters found the vehicles about 100-yards apart. The 81-year old driver was found unresponsive and

unconscious. He was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center then airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he later died. The driver of the Hyundai Elantra suffered minor injuries. The Jaws of Lifer had to be used to rescue him from his vehicle.
The incident remains under investigation. It has been determined that alcohol and drugs were not a factor.
