Buckeye, AZ (April 26th, 2023) – A multi-car crash that happened on Monday, April 24, in Buckeye, Arizona, has claimed the life of at least one person, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Deadly crash on I-10 near Tonopah shuts down portion of highway
The tragic incident occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10, close to milepost 103, which is situated near I-10 and Hassayampa Road. Seven vehicles, including two semi-trucks, were involved in the crash, which was caused by one of the vehicles failing to stop while passing through a construction zone, resulting in a chain-reaction crash.
"This is a collision involving two semis and a number of other vehicles. One semi was pulling a flatbed and is jackknifed across all eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 at milepost 105. Eastbound I-10 is completely blocked," said DPS in a statement released shortly after the accident.
Unfortunately, the driver of the first vehicle that did not stop in time died. The victim has not yet been identified. In addition, three other people were taken to hospital, with one of them being airlifted in critical condition.
As a result of the crash, eastbound I-10 was closed completely, causing significant delays for motorists in the area. The DPS is continuing to investigate the incident, and more information is expected to be released in due course.
