Avondale AZ (November 14, 2018) - 6 children dodged serious injuries Wednesday morning November 14, 2018 when their school bus was struck by a pick-up truck driver who ran a stop sign at West Valley Intersection. Maricopa County Sherriff’s official spokesman Bryant Vanegas stated that the driver of the school bus was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
This took place near the Southern Avenue and El Mirage Road. According to Rural Metro Fire department fireman, Shawn Gilleland, the bus was going westbound on Southern Avenue just before 8 A.M., when the driver of the pick-up truck failed to stop at a stop sign and ran into the school bus. The impact caused the bus to lose control and tip over landing on its side. Gilleland reported that the driver and students had evacuated the bus by the time the first rescue team arrived at the scene. Air 15 showed there were two hatches on the roof of the bus opened. No child was hurt and the children were safely returned to their parents, Vanegas stated. The driver of the pick-up truck was not hurt and he was not speeding nor was he impaired when driving. Possible charged have not yet been stated.
