A pilot was killed last week after receiving instructions from the tower to divert his plane. Apparently, a Gulfstream jet had been cleared to land first, so the tower wanted the pilot to make a second approach.
They then received a call that the plane had crashed into a neighborhood, exploded and was on fire, according to the radio transmission report.
The pilot was burned in the crash, but his passenger, a longtime friend of the pilot, survived and fled the wreck. He was taken to the hospital for burn injuries, but later released.
The radio transmission report indicates that the pilot was told to go-around, a type of maneuver that would turn the plane to avoid any turbulence from the Gulfstream jet before the plane made its second approach.
No cause has yet been determined in the crash of the plane.
