Chandler, AZ —A fatal single vehicle collision has shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 just south of the Valley early Monday morning, February 10th. According to the Arizona Department of Public safety, the incident occurred near milepost 171 when troopers were summoned to respond to a single vehicle rollover collision just south of Riggs Road sometime around 5:00 A.M. DPS identified the vehicle involved as a Nissan Titan that was being driven by a 40-year old male from Casa Grande.
The 40-year old man was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff. Authorities do not know the cause of the rollover and any questions of impairment would be pending further investigations. That stretch of I-10 is currently undergoing a study that could see it expand to three lanes in each direction. There were heavy delays in the area while traffic was shut down for several hours. It reopened around 8:30 a.m.
