PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix Police Department has released the identity of a pedestrian who was struck and killed just before 7:00 A.M. on Wednesday evening January 29th. The pedestrian was identified as 62-year old Robert L. Fayette of Phoenix. According to Phoenix Police Department, Fayette was crossing a marked crosswalk while pushing a wheelchair at the intersection of W Bell Road and N 23rd Avenue in front of the Midway Nissan dealership.
CCTV footage obtained from the accident shows that the signal changed while Fayette was crossing the street. That is when a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis stuck Fayette and ejected him across the roadway. The Mercury Grand Marquis was being driven by a 77-year old male Phoenix resident. The driver of the Mercury Grand Marquis remained at the scene until authorities arrived. First responders arrived to find Fayette conscious and rushed him via ambulance to a nearby hospital where Fayette was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. According to investigators, neither alcohol nor drugs seems to be a factor in the accident. The investigation remains ongoing. No charges have been filed yet pending the outcome of the investigation.
