Phoenix, AZ (September 4, 2019)- The Phoenix Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that left 1 pedestrian dead and another severely injured in central Phoenix late Tuesday evening, September 3rd. Emergency personnel were summoned to respond to a collision that occurred just after 9:10 P.M. near the intersection of 16th Street and Indian School Road.
According to authorities, 2 pedestrians, a man and a woman, were crossing in a marked cross walk at the intersection going against a red light. Both pedestrians were struck by a driver who had the right of way with a full green light according to witnesses. 49-year old Down Christa was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The 55-year old male pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for serious injuries. He is expected to survive according to medical staff. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was described as an 84-year old man. The driver remained at the scene until first responders arrived. Phoenix officers said they do not believe that impairment played a factor in the collision. No further information was made available at this time.
