El Mirage, AZ (September 6, 2018) – A 20-year-old man was involved in a deadly traffic incident in El Mirage early Tuesday morning, September 4th. According to officials the accident occurred between Peoria and Olive Avenues, closing off traffic both directions as the scene unfolded. The victim, identified as Cody Nielsen, was riding a bicycle sometime around 5 A.M. on his way to work at nearby Glendale Airport. Conversations with Nielsen’s foster caretaker reveal details regarding the incident, including a call from the victim during the accident.
Police report that Nielsen was struck by a vehicle, conscious enough to make a call, and was subsequently struck and killed by a second vehicle. While the second driver was identified and stood by the scene of the accident as the road was closed for hours, the first driver has since been unidentified.
