August 24th ─ according to the Phoenix Police Department, 1 person id dead and 2 others are in listed in serious but stable condition after a fiery collision between 2 vehicles on a north Phoenix street late Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. when authorities received reports of an accident near the intersection of 64th Street and Shea Boulevard. Officers arrived to find a black sedan engulfed in flames. Fire and rescue personnel arrived minutes later and were able to douse the flames. According to eyewitnesses the black sedan, driven by a 24-year old male driver, was speeding down Shea Boulevard when he struck a pickup truck.
The sedan then jumped over a median and slammed head-on into a tree before catching fire. A 22-year old passenger was able to escape from the sedan and suffered minor injuries during the incident. The 24-year old driver of the black sedan was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The pickup truck was found on the street with a 28-year old male driver on the road. The driver of the pickup truck was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the truck during the accident. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Shea Boulevard was still shut down Thursday morning between 56th and 64th streets while officials conducted their investigation.
