Somerton, AZ – Two men were taken to the emergency room after rear ending a fuel truck at high speeds Thursday morning.

The two individuals were riding in a Ford pickup truck near Somerton close to the County 20th Street and Avenue G intersection at about 9:15 a.m. when the pickup they were in ran into the back of the fuel truck at about 50 mph per the Yuma Sun. The fuel truck did not spill fuel.
Somerton/Cocopah firefighters extricated the two victims in the pickup truck. When firefighters extricated the victims, the dashboard was pushed in and the steering wheel was bent. One of the passengers hit the windshield. It is unknown if they were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The pickup truck victims were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center. One was transported by Somerton/Cocopah ambulance and the other by San Luis Rafael Department ambulance. Per company policies, the driver of the fuel truck was transported to the hospital by another company employee, he received minor injuries.
Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
