Surprise, AZ – Two people result dead after a collision involving an SUV and a semi on a major route that leads to Las Vegas Thursday morning.

A full-sized nineties model Chevrolet SUV crossed the center line onto oncoming traffic on U.S. 93 near Wickenburg and hit a tractor-trailer head-on at about eleven in the morning. The impact of the hit killed the driver of the SUV a 54-year-old man from Wickenburg and knocked the tractor-trailer onto the shoulder where it caught on fire. The driver of the semi-truck, a forty-four-year-old from Las Vegas was killed in the fire. The cab was burned to ashes.
A stretch of nine miles of road was closed in both directions for about eight hours as the scene was being investigated and cleared.
Authorities are determining what caused the SUV to enter into the opposite lane. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been a factor contributing to the crash.
