The man was struck on the peninsula tracks near Hayward Park station by a northbound train at about 7:30 a.m. Because of the location of the train route, the train moves at slower speeds to allow an ample amount of time for pedestrians to clear the tracks.
The train remained at the scene as the accident as the San Mateo County coroner examined the body of the diseased and for investigators to investigate the motif of the man who did not clear the tracks of an approaching train.
There were 45 minute train delays. Service resumed on a single track for south and northbound trains while the accident underwent investigation.
