An accident on Wednesday afternoon in Phoenix left one family extremely devastated when an elderly driver hit their 9-year-old daughter while she was playing outside.
According to the Phoenix Police Department Spokesperson, an 85-year-old man was driving southbound on 35th Place and Southern Avenues at 4:30 p.m. The girl was riding her scooter along 38th Avenue.
The man did not see her until it was too late. He tried to swerve out of the way, but he hit her and ran her over.
The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police do not believe that he was impaired.
The girl was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to her injuries.
