10 people were injured in a rollover accident, including a 7-year old girl who was left in critical condition after being ejected from the rollover vehicle on the westbound Interstate 10 (I-10) Monday evening, Oct. 31st. The incident occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. when a Ford Explorer traveling west on the I-10, when for unknown reasons the SUV rolled over off the interstate near North Valley Parkway and Dixileta Drive in Phoenix. The Phoenix Fire Department say the 34-year old man who was driving the SUV was taking the group to a neighborhood to trick-or-treat when the accident occurred and many of the vehicle's occupants were wearing Halloween costumes.
The Ford Explorer SUV was carrying 10 occupants of whom only 1 was wearing a seatbelt. The 7-year old girl was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. She was airlifted to a pediatric trauma center where she was hospitalized in critical condition by hospital staff. 4 people were treated on scene for minor injuries and refused transport to a hospital. 5 others were transported by ambulance to hospitals in stable condition. Authorities are investigating the incident and it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
