September 20th - North Las Vegas Police have arrested an 18-year old teen after he shot at another man following a road rage altercation between the two motorists in the middle of the day in North Las Vegas Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 20th. Officers responded to a collision around 1:50 p.m. in the area of Cheyenne Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard involving a Honda Accord and a BMW coupe. The driver of the Honda Accord rear-ended the BMW coupe. The driver of the BMW then exited the vehicle and came toward the Honda with a gun in his hand in "a threatening manner." The driver of the Honda Accord, fearing for his life, left the scene of the accident, and the driver of the BMW coupe followed him.
He says both male drivers stopped their vehicles near Revere Street and Colton Avenue, just as children were coming home from school, got out and started shooting at each other. Officers identified and arrested 18-year old David Rosengrant-Munoz, who is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, and attempted murder with a deadly weapon. The 24-year old driver of the Honda Accord suffered no injuries, according to North Las Vegas police. Rosengrant-Munoz was struck multiple times and was later transported to University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. He is expected to survive.
Shanna Moore and Stevie Johnson say their 16-year old son will live with the images he saw for the rest of his life. "He was shook up, I mean he's not used to seeing stuff like that, so yeah, he was shook up behind it," said Johnson. Moore, who went to meet her son at the school bus stop right in front of their gated community said she panicked when she saw the shooting scene, “I was frightened, I didn't know what was going on, I just seen a guy was bleeding from the mouth … I was just worried and wanted to make sure my son and everyone was okay, I didn't know what happened," said Moore.
Two students who were getting off of their school bus says they saw a bloodied man approached them, begging for help. “He was all like, 'I just got shot in the mouth, I just got shot in the mouth, call the cops!'" said 16-year old Cesar Mercado. "This is a situation that's very concerning for us because, like you said, it is broad daylight, there are lots of schools around," said Officer Aaron Patty with the North Las Vegas Police Department.
Patty says this is another reminder of why drivers should always avoid road rage confrontations, even if you are involved in an accident. "If you feel yourself getting agitated as a result of that crash, take a timeout call family friends whoever you need to, calm yourself down," said Patty. The investigation is ongoing and so far no charges have been filed against either man.
