Phoenix, AZ (October 16, 2018) – Two separate car crashes in the Phoenix area, involving a City of Phoenix vehicle and a Waste Management garbage truck, left one person dead and multiple injured Tuesday morning, October 16th, Chandler police said.
The first crash occurred at around 5 a.m. at the intersection of Queen Creek and Price roads when a garbage truck collided with a sedan, causing extensive damage when it smashed into the vehicle. The unidentified driver of the sedan sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, but later died. Chandler police closed the intersection for several hours, disclosing few details pending investigation.
The second crash occurred near 63rd Avenue and Indian School Road, where a pickup truck struck a city-owned vehicle. The unnamed 20-year-old driver of the pickup truck suffered from serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the street transportation workers of the City of Phoenix vehicle sustained only minor injuries. Chandler police are continuing to investigate the crash, but believe the driver of the pickup truck may have been impaired at the time of the crash.
